Within each of us, a daily conflict of sorts rages on: you against yourself. This conflict is not existential and shaped by your surroundings, but rather stems from your own actions. It is the manifestation of the determined version of you who is constantly at odds with the apathetic, doubtful version. This conflict is often the determinant of growth.

We all have an internal dialogue that takes place daily, Key Bell uses two voices. One voice shouts, “Believe in yourself, work hard, achieve everything you had ever dreamed of.”

The second voice puts you down saying, “You’re not good enough. A failure, spending all day in bed and reminding you there is always tomorrow.”

The root cause of the problem isn’t outside, but a lot of the times lies in the comfort zone, fear, and countless excuses that one makes.

The good news is, it is possible to win this battle every day.

Winning the daily fight with internal dialogue doesn’t define peak performance and being perfect. It contains deciding to wake up early and following through with with a task. Each small win is a step towards success, whether that is an early wake up call, finishing assigned tasks for the day, or kicking bad habits. These little victories slowly reinforce your belief and helps in reaching ones goals much faster.

At Reader is Leader, we understand that self development should not be understood as an act of rivalry. It is solely an improvement to one’s self to be better than who they were yesterday. That is the true victory, and how the real game is won.

How do you overcome the less capable version of yourself?

➡️ Be intentional – Set one achievable goal for the week and accomplish it.

➡️ Challenge yourself – Replace the phrase “I can’t” with “I’m trying.”

➡️ Choose work over leisure – Growth happens in the discomfort of pushing your limits.

➡️ Small celebrations are big motivators – They help you stay on track.

➡️ Add to the routine – The struggle sets in every single day.

You don’t need to be the strongest, the smartest, or the richest person. The only person you need to keep showing up for is yourself—time and time again.

Don’t forget:

✅ You win every time action is taken instead of fear.

✅ You win every time a distraction is say no to.

✅ You win every time you have faith in yourself.

You have everything needed to win, this is a You vs You situation.

The only question that remains is: Are you rising today?
